Just a short note to say that I was holidaying in Cornwall this past week and took in the Plymouth Parkway game at Bodmin on Saturday. Very entertaining - I thought Mark Berry looked very sharp, took his goals well and I wondered if any senior sides had taken an interest in him, then I noticed while looking around the internet that he'd had a trial at Torquay last year.
Although the 3rd goal was a bit of a freak effort and the midfield scorer (Danny Brooks?) won't win many sprint challenges, I thought his use of the ball was intelligent and also the wiry right-sided midfielder (sorry, didn't catch the name + the programme line-up was very different to the team line-up) was very determined and skilful, unlucky not to score a 4th.
As someone who doesn't get to see this level much these days (for my sins, I'm a Swansea City season ticket holder) I was impressed with the overall play + effort on what was a very hot day, but mildly surprised at the amount of bookings for dissent - I'm not sure if the ref was par for the course at this grade but, once he'd set his stall out, there was no turning back. In the circumstances, the dismissal of the Bodmin player for a sly kick was fairly inevitable. I guess the number of ex-opposition players in Parkway side added to the mix.
Anyway, thanks for the entertainment and I hope Parkway go onto enjoy a great season.
