THROGMORTON CUP AWAY TO TAVISTOCK

THE "LAMBS" PINCH IT !!
Well! Well! not a way to settle any cup-tie, but with the score line stalemate after extra time, penalties would be the issue. Both sides well supported, produced some good football that saw play end to end. I thought with both keepers, Ben Elphlick for Parkway, and Andy Meeds for Tavy, both bringing off some great saves, it kept the score sheet negative. Parkway manager Dave Leonard played all the options from the bench. One being "Kirk Smith" drafted in from the second team. But his fresh legs was short lived . He was the subject to a so-called two footed tackle. To the amazement of all at "Langsford Park" the "ref " showed us all where he kept his red card !! This was a bitter blow to us so late in the game. But we held on for the final whistle. It must be said "Tavy" stepped up and produced 5 brilliant penalties. On our side, Andy Sargent, Paul Baker, Mat Cusack and Chris Wright all found the net. But fate fell for us when Jonnie Morris saw his effort cannon off the cross-bar with the ball disappearing into the night sky ?? . It was the cup over for us. Can I say on behalf of the Parkway powers to be, the half time hospitality was top class.

TORPOINT HOME

"TAMARSIDE VICTORY NO 2"
ANDY SARGENT SNATCHES THE WINNER !!
Bolitho Park was blessed with sunshine, and a good crowd saw a lively game. 5 goals, a missed penalty and the dreaded red card. We had to come from a goal down after some soft tackling to allow the early goal. After 35 mins we levelled. Andy Sargent with a low free kick found Chris Wright who steered it home. Then Matty Hawke picked out Sargent who headed home to give us the lead on the break. Second half they got a goal back early. Then missed a golden chance to go ahead all be it from the spot. But the penalty was well saved by the keeper. Late in the game, Deano Smith laid a ball to the far post. It was met on the volley by "Sargie" to give us all three points with only 8 mins left in the game.

"RED CARD"
It was handbags at 40yds when Marc Bonney was on the end of a two footed tackle. After the team showed their heated feelings, the ref had no option but to show a red card !!. It gave the offending player the chance of an early seat on the Torpoint Ferry home ??.

HOLSWORTHY AT HOME

"THE MAGPIES ARE PUT TO ROOST ??"
We were far too strong for our North Devon visitors "Holsworthy". At no time did we look under pressure. On the break with a 4-0 lead, it was a question how many will we score. To set the ball rolling so to speak, Mat Cusack got 2 goals. Followed by Deano Smith and Andy Sargent. Second half Andy got his second, 2mins later Paul Baker hit the target. Off the bench Chris Wright added two more ,and Lee Doel made the grand total of nine. Next home game is Wed 17th feb Clyst Rovers.

SALTASH AWAY

THE ASHES ARE COOLED AT KIMBERLEY ??
We somewhat blew some cold winds over the "Ashes" at Kimberley with a more than convincing win to the tune of 3-1. The squad certainly raised our game for what is namely the "Tamar side Derby" ??. Managers "Lennie and Gamms", must have been well pleased with the result and the way the game was won. A cold night, but the crowd saw an entertaining game . Play was at both ends, and the football was good to watch. We were aware they were slightly below strength, on account Gavin Coulton was missing and the first choice keeper. But we did not read too much into what you hear !!. We had players missing ( i did'nt play ??) Anyway it was a great win for us. We must thank Saltash, for the hospitality which is always top class. Scroll down for the scorers, but my Man of the Match award was void. There were too many players in the frame for me to choose ??. Saturday next, Holsworthy at home.

WE TAKE THE LEAD !!
Matt Cusack skinned his defender, and with the keeper expecting the cross, he squeezed his shot inside the near post. This was on 32mins, and just the start we needed.

"STUMBLING BLOCK"
During the course of the game, "Matty Hawke", was proved to be a real brick wall for the "Ashes" front runners. He held our defence together for the full 90mins.

"MARC BONNEY"
Continues to put in some great performances in the roll of full-back. He saw a lot of the ball and handled all that came his way. He always in a 50-50 tackle, will give you full 100% for aggression.

SALTASH AWAY

JOHN HAVERAN
Early in the second half they got the penalty. I thought it might be the turning point in the game. It was a double blow for us because we then lost key defender "John" through injury. But off the bench we had Josh Fenwick who filled the gap brilliantly in our defence.

SALTASH AWAY

CHRISSIE WRIGHT
Proved to be a problem all through the 90mins. In the second half he broke away on a through ball. He evaded three defenders, and the one on one with the keeper, found the corner of the net for our third goal. (brilliant).

CLYST ROVERS AWAY

PARKWAY KEEPER
Our keeper Ben Elphlick continues to show safe hands. During the course of the game he handled with ease all that came his way !! It was three points as predicted against Clyst, who are currently in the basement area of the league. But the surface of the ground at Waterslade Park made any control running with the ball difficult. However we proved too strong for the home side despite the conditions. On the score sheet Chris Wright with a pile driver after good work coming from Matty Cusack. The second from Paul Baker in the second half, doing well to finish. The third goal was a simple task for "Wrighty" to run the ball over the line after "Doely's" shot was half blocked. An uphill task now for the home side having being reduced down to 10men after a second yellow card.

CLYST ROVERS AWAY

LOOK OF DESPAIR !!
Chris Wright saw his threat on goal well saved by the home keeper.

CLYST ROVERS AWAY

MARK BONNEY
In the first half the trusty left foot of "Bonno", supplied the Parkway front runners with some searching crosses. He was a strong contender, and was in the frame for Man of the Match.

CLYST ROVERS AWAY

LEE DOEL
The sting was taken out of this shot from "Doely"by the tackle. It ran for Chris Wright to tap in for our 3rd goal.

CLYST ROVERS AWAY

"MAN OF THE MATCH"
Having some good efforts on target during the 90mins of play. But for determination and eagerness to win the game, Lee Doel carried off the club award.
Next one now Tues Feb 9th Saltash away. (TOO GOOD TO MISS ??)
